

What Should You Do If You’re Hurt on the Job
After an on the job injury, it can be hard to know what steps need to be

INFORM YOU EMPLOYER
Although this may sound like an obvious first step, it is important that your employer knows of and documents your injury. This step is vital to your ability to file for and to receive Workers Compensation benefits. In an emergency situation, however, you may do this after you have sought medical attention, although it is best to inform them immediately.
VISIT A DOCTOR
Although, large companies usually have a specific doctor or clinic that you are instructed to see. This, however, is not always the case. If your employer does not advise you to see a specific doctor, you may see one of your choosing. As long as the doctor is able to bill Worker’s Compensation claims. If your employer instructs you to see a specific physician, you may request a change by contacting your claims representative directly.
INFORM YOUR DOCTOR
When you visit the doctor, please provide all of the information that you have received regarding the accident. INCLUDING a detailed description of the injury and any pains that you are having. Also, any information that you may have received from the Workers Compensation claim office such as claim number, Adjustor’s name, and Contact Information.
COMPLETE NECESSARY FORMS
In North Carolina, the Industrial Commission requires that an injured worker completes a FORM 18 to file a Workers Compensation claim. This form must be completed and submitted in order to file Workers Compensation claims and to receive benefits.
