More Money, More Problems
Biggie Biggie Pharma can’t you see, sometimes your ads just hypnotize me. Hopefully, that completely awesome 90’s reference wasn’t wasted. For a boring old chiropractor, I’m doing my best to stay connect to my patients and potential chiropractic patients. To help them understand why seeing a chiropractor is often the best choice for many healthcare needs. No, I did not say ALL, but let’s give credit where credit is due. There are many integrated chiropractors that utilize structural correction and whole food nutrition to address two very important and often neglected areas of health; the nervous system and nutrition.
The question is “WHY?”
Why do so many people head to a medical doctor first and without hesitation instead of utilizing more cost-effective and safer options with their local Greenville, NC chiropractor? This is the preverbal $64,000 question isn’t. It’s also one that is particularly hard to for a chiropractor to answer.
I am in, what is known among chiropractors as, the chiro-bubble. I don’t understand why potential chiropractic patients don’t understand what I clearly understand, which is that chiropractic is a far safer, more effective, healthier and less expensive form of healthcare. For a myriad of specific conditions like headaches, migraines, low back pain, mid back pain, sciatica, carpal tunnel, frozen shoulder, numbness, tingling and much more. Not only does chiropractic have a solid record with many musculoskeletal aches and pains. However, there is evidence to suggest that the nervous system and consequentially the whole body function better. This is a result of making structural corrections to abnormal shifts in the spine via chiropractic care.
Here’re some of the main issues I, as chiropractor outside of the “general public”, see as barriers. Mainly when looking for treatment from a chiropractor instead of going the typical orthodox medical path.

1. Chiropractors:
- Didn’t expect that did you, but it’s true. Chiropractors, in general, have an innate personality that tends to conflict with cultural norms. That is why many of us are chiropractors. We search and seek out truth above all and when we find a great deal of amazing science and information both supporting chiropractic and refuting the standard medical practices we tend to get a little self-righteous. I am so guilty of this. My bad. This is one of many chiropractor faux pas that we commit. You could and, in fact, I have seen chapters in books written specifically on the many stupid things that chiropractors do hurting our own credibility. But this blog is not for that it is for you the patient. So let’s go back and address the title of the blog.

2. Big Pharma:
- The multi-billion dollar corporations that make and sell pharmaceutical drugs and profit from surgeries and services at enormous hospitals do have a part to play in all of this. They are not the only ones but let’s be honest, when you have the potential to make or lose HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS there’s bound to be at least one decision maker that’s likely to go to ethically gray, or not, lengths to protect that kind of cash flow. This is where the “More money, more problems” statement comes into play.
Now, medicine is not all bad or unethical nor am I saying medical doctors are the problem.
This is 100%, not the case. The majority of the medical profession is made up of good honest and caring men and women who became doctors and nurses to help people, and many of them do. Western medicine is amazing and a complete wonder to observe when it is being utilized appropriately in emergency situations. There is a great deal of awe that accompanies us when privy to extremely critical and life threatening situation that has been stopped cold and a life has been saved with drugs and surgery. This is not the problem.
The problem is that that wonder and awe allows a big price to be put on the provider’s bill. Rightfully so of course. If they can reattach my arm or literally bring me back to life then they deserve it. Here’s what everyone often overlooks. These drugs and surgery are NOT primarily used for these situations. Now a great deal of money goes to marketing and advertising to tell potential patients that we all needs drugs or surgery for non-emergency conditions. This is simply not supported by science or research. If it did iatrogenic deaths (deaths caused by examination or treatment) would not be one of the leading causes of deaths in the U.S.
Chiropractors now this better than most because we see understand how dangerous medicine is compared to our own chiropractic treatments.
This is CLEARLY true when you look at one simple fact. Malpractice for a chiropractor is insanely inexpensive, especially when compared to a medical doctor. Why? Simply because treatment from a chiropractic is FAR LESS RISKY. If a chiropractor makes a mistake you may experience some adverse side effects but at worst they are typical minor effects. As a medical doctor, even if you do “everything right” according to the standards of practice set by your governing boards, you are still FAR MORE LIKELY TO SEVERELY HURT OR KILL A PATIENT. This lends itself to a greater potential for litigation and lawsuits hence the higher malpractice insurance.
Ultimately a chiropractor can help you prevent a lot of potentially risky medical treatment like spinal surgery. There is certainly evidence to suggest that a chiropractor with an integrated office utilizing whole food supplements can help improve patients overall health. Whether it with your cardiovascular system, pancreas, thyroid, bones, stomach etc.
- Food is medicine.
- Food is literally the fuel that you feed your body for energy.
- Food is also the raw materials used to rebuild and repair every cell in your body.
NO DRUG OR SURGERY CAN REPLACE the function of food which is essential for EVERY cell and biological process in your body.
So be discerning and insight when considering whether or not the billion dollar façade of medicine really has substance under that expensive exterior. If could be that all that money is really going to push for unnecessary drugs and surgeries. Fooling yourself into thinking that the most financially successful healthcare options are the best or even the safest will not be the best option. Look for a good chiropractor. Remember, we are our own worst enemy so be diligent in your search for a chiropractor.
